Our website will provide you with the latest information regarding opportunities to participate in the public hunting and fishing programs on the installation. In addition, it will feature general information about HSAAP's natural resources program and how interested individuals might support the program as a Conservation Volunteer.
The deadline to have applied for the upcoming 2010 HSAAP deer hunts was August 9, 2010 and the drawing for these hunts has been completed. Therefore, the installation is no longer accepting applications for the 2010 deer hunts. The installation received over 1,000 applications for this year's hunts, from which, there were approximately 500 hunters drawn. The selected hunters are currently undergoing review of their submitted background checks. Upon completion of this review, successful applicants will receive written notification by mail no later than September 7, 2010. Unsuccessful applicants will not receive any type of written notification.
Although many individuals are unaware of it, HSAAP initiated a public fishing program two years ago and will continue the program again in 2011. The installation will host four one-day public fishing events in June and July to be held in the restricted section of the Holston River on the installation. These events are catch and release events and fishermen are required to wade in order to fish...no boats are allowed. Sixteen participants will be randomly drawn for each one-day event. If you are interested in obtaining application information in order to apply for next year's fishing events, that information will be available on this site during the first week of May, 2011.
Conservation Volunteer Program Information
Under Department of Defense guidelines, HSAAP has authority to utilize volunteers from the general public to assist with the installation’s natural resources program. These individuals, known as Conservation Volunteers, may be utilized to assist with a wide variety of natural resources work on the installation. Types of work with which volunteers may assist include: planting trees for reforestation projects, conducting bird surveys, cleaning out nest boxes, assisting with implementation of the installation’s hunting and fishing programs, etc. Depending upon the nature of the work that they will be involved with, some individuals may be required to obtain a background check from their local city or county police department prior to serving as a Conservation Volunteer.
